Used to be objects of desire.
Now they’re hopes of profit in booming segments.

Well they know that they’ll sell very well..

It’s there to fund more desirable Alfas, so I’m all for it.
Plus the Stelvio resembles a Lancia Integrale if you squint (a lot).

And they always sold more plebeian models along side their sportier models. The crossover is the new family saloon.
It’s not like they forgot how to make a desirable car.

Desire for a mechanic?

Alfa used to build desirable cars. They still do. But they used to, too.

Love how evocative the front end is of a GTV...

It’s been that way ever since the 1900 Berlina. The vast majority of Alfa sales came from mass-market cars in popular segments. For the past 60 years that meant sedans and hatchbacks. Now it’s a Crossover.

That isn’t a GTV, that’s a 1750 Berlina.

I know it’s not a GTV, was commenting on the fascia on the new model, grill, etc...

Even the most humble Alfas totally were/are glorious to drive. They all seem to have that special feel — plus, the Song of the Alfa :D

Instead of a unique DOHC engine and 5 speed transmission the new Alfa offers...
Is it a twin turbo six or 8? I don’t even remember.

There are worse offenders out there. Take a company like Honda. There’s nothing attractive left, only boring competent commuters. They used to build fun cars and sporty commuters. And now? There really is nothing left.

2.0 turbo from the Giulia or biturbo V6, also from the Giulia. Both engines have received a lot of praise so far. Shame about the transmission.
I’ve owned a 91 Alfa 164 with the 3.0 12v Busso V6 and it was a absolutely glorious(the engine at least, the rest of the car reflected the $650 I paid for it), but as much as I wish they could still be serving engines like that up if they want to survive they have to get and stay with the times.

I think *CARS* used to be objects of desire. New cars ain’t got soul.

If they don’t make profit they’ll be gone for good. It’s not so bad. They’re trying to keep the style where they can.
You’re one of those who think the Cayenne killed Porsche, AREN’T YOU?

Crossovers = sales = profits = money to make fun cars. Simple as that.
